Senators
Should Support FMA
by Len Deo, Executive Director, NJ Family Policy Council
Dear
Editor:
The Ledger recently reported that the U.S. Senate is scheduled
to vote July 12th on The Federal Marriage Amendment (FMA,
SJR 30) to preserve marriage between one man and one woman
only, but it did not inform NJ citizens that our Senators
intend to vote against it.
Senator
Frank Lautenberg and Jon Corzine’s position does not
represent the will of the majority of New Jerseyans, but
rather the will of the radical left wing of their political
party. According to a recent NY Times poll, support for
the FMA extends across a wide majority of the public and
includes people traditionally viewed as supporters of homosexual
rights: Democrats, women, and people who live on the East
Coast1 . It is the Senators’ duty to represent
the will of the majority of their constituents.
With
an issue this critical to the people of New Jersey, we as
citizens must hold these elected officials accountable,
and insist that they represent us by protecting marriage,
the most basic institution of society. For the sake of our
children, let your voice be heard. To contact your Senators,
and for more information on this issue, simply go to www.njfpc.org
by July 12th.
