McGreevey Gives False Information to College Students
Greg Quinlan, PFOX and Consultant for NJ Family Policy Council
On October 5th, (McGreevey assails society’s intolerant religious teachings 10/6/07), former Governor McGreevey made an implicitly false statement to William Paterson University students at a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning & Allies meeting. Jim McGreevey is as qualified to speak to society’s health and religious beliefs as O.J. Simpson is qualified to teach anger management. McGreevey has always exhibited confusion between truth and fiction. To the students at William Paterson University he exhibited his confusion again. McGreevey stated being gay “is as natural, as healthy and as normative as being straight. The Webster’s New Collegiate Dictionary defines health/healthy as “being in sound body, mind or spirit” and “freedom from physical disease or pain”.
I am ex-gay and a nurse. I left the homosexual lifestyle after personally watching 100 individuals die of AIDS. More of my friends still suffer from AIDS, Hepatitis and other diseases, some of which are either rare or virtually nonexistent among the heterosexual population. “Normative?” Poor Jim. His use of the term to describe his sexual behavior is over the top and social reconstructionism. Since homosexuals comprise less than 2.5 percent of the population by their own admission, it’s not surprising that they are trying to change the meaning of “normal” by attempting to redefine societal standards. Homosexual feelings and behavior are not genetic; “There are no replicated scientific studies supporting any specific biological etiology for homosexuality” -- American Psychiatric Association, May 2000. Most New Jerseyans believe gay people have a right to live as they choose but reject the idea of redefining societal standards for everyone else. Jim McGreevy, hasn’t your confusion caused enough harm to New Jersey? Why not get it straight.
