Same-Sex "Marriage":
Responses to the New Same-Sex “Marriage” Propaganda Poll
Toni Meyer, Sr. Research Analyst, New Jersey Family Policy Council

Sample Letters-to-Editor

Dear editor:

  1. I am amazed at the results of the recently reported poll commissioned by gay activists, which said that 55% of New Jerseyans supported giving homosexuals the same “freedom” to marry as a man and a woman. Were poll participants informed about what our Constitution really says about granting such “freedom”? Neither our state nor federal Constitution recognizes a fundamental “right” to marriage for anyone. All citizens have the same restrictions under current law: no citizen is “free to marry” unless they are a man and a woman, they are 18 or older, and they are not close blood relatives. Although sexual relationships may involve a “right to privacy”, marriage is a public act, and is therefore subject to reasonable state regulation, such as our legal and constitutional laws that prohibit polygamy and underage marriage. The government supports and encourages the union of one-man and one-woman due to the common benefits it brings to all of society. Our government is NOT compelled by the state constitution to legalized same-sex “marriage” or any other redefinition of marriage. Let’s start educating our citizens with the facts!

  2. Homosexual activists in NJ have just released a new “poll” which seems to show that a slight majority of New Jerseyans support “giving homosexual couples the same ‘freedom’ to marry as heterosexual couples”. Were these people informed that if our government gives homosexuals the legal right to marry, it will be paving the way for other redefinitions of marriage, such as polygamy and eventually even adult/child unions? If the courts succeed in using this bogus “equal rights” argument to redefine the institution of marriage instead of supporting the common good of all society, where will it end, and on what basis will citizens stop it?

  3. Regarding the new NJ poll commissioned by homosexual activists, I find it hard to believe that 55% of our citizens believe that same-sex “marriage” should be legalized in our state. Were they informed in this poll, that if same-sex marriage becomes legal here, sex education classes will begin teaching our children methods of homosexual sex and teaching that homosexual sex and homosexual marriage is an acceptable lifestyle choice? Since same-sex marriage has become legal in Massachusetts, school systems have been incorporating pro-homosexual teachings into curricula as early as the first grade. In fact, just last month a Massachusetts father met with the principal and board of education president to obtain assurance that his 6-year-old son would be exempt from such teaching. The school administrators would not grant his request, and also had him arrested because he said he would not leave until they did grant his request. The father spent the night in jail and was arraigned before a judge the next morning. I for one do not want to find my parental rights and liberties overridden and have to battle both my school system and the law to protect my child from such teachings.

  4. After reading the results of the new poll conducted by homosexual activists in NJ, which said that 55% of our citizens would not support a constitutional amendment to overturn a court decision legalizing same-sex marriage, I see the need to educate my fellow citizens about the dangers of allowing the courts to redefine marriage without obtaining the consent of the people at the ballot box. Polls can be very deceiving. Any attempt by unelected judges or any other branch of government to alter marriage without the consent of the people, or to diminish the father-mother-child relationship in favor of a state-citizen relationship, usurps the natural rights and freedoms of the people and constitutes a serious breech of trust. When government leaves it up to the courts to make decisions, we will no longer be functioning as a nation of the people, by the people and for the people. Marriage is an institution that has arisen from long-held beliefs and customs of people that are prior to all states and all courts, and are essential to the very fabric of society. It is not a decision we should ever leave up to the courts.
