Same-Sex "Marriage":
NJ Family Policy Council Calls On NJ Supreme Court
To Uphold A Foundational Institution; Marriage!
Trenton – The New Jersey Family Policy Council anticipating an appeal being filed to the NJ Supreme Court is calling on the Court to uphold the foundational institution of marriage as the union between one man and one woman only.
“We’ve said all along that legislators and judges both have constitutionally proper roles to play,” said Len Deo, President of the New Jersey Family Policy Council. “Defining marriage is the business of the legislature, and that’s how two lower court opinions were decided.”
“The legislature should set social policy and approve laws for the entire state of New Jersey and the judiciary should interpret the law. The previous rulings set the standard that New Jersey law clearly defines marriage. It is between one man and one woman. Both opinions affirm the foundational principles of marriage. We must prevent marriage from falling victim to a political agenda driven by a minority wanting to impose their will on the rest of the state, a position thus far affirmed by the lower Courts in New Jersey,” Deo said. “The legislature has also responded by enacting Domestic Partnerships for those who cannot get married. Now the cry of ‘not enough’ is resounding through Trenton and that’s disingenuous,” Deo added.
“Simply eliminating an entire gender from the picture and still calling it ‘marriage’ is not a mere expansion of an institution, but rather the destruction of a core principle of society,” Deo continued. “It is analogous to removing one side from a square; by doing so the square loses its shape and becomes a triangle.”
“ Advocates for same-sex ‘marriage’ do not like the democratic process of going through the legislature,” Deo emphasized. “That’s why they file lawsuits instead of introducing legislation. They know that Americans believe in marriage as a male-female union. We believe the NJ Supreme Court is extremely capable of making jurisprudent decisions. The decisions of the Superior Court Mercer County Law Division and Superior Court Appellate Division are certainly pointing the way.” noted Deo.
“The bottom line is citizens are already free to live their lifestyle and now get their benefits too, but they don’t have the right to redefine marriage in the process. Only marriage between a man and a woman should be valid and recognized in New Jersey. New Jersey and marriage, husband and wife, perfect together,” Deo concluded.
The New Jersey Family Policy Council and other pro-marriage organizations’ efforts are being supported by the Center for Marriage Law and the Alliance Defense Fund, non-profit litigation law centers, which endorse one man and one woman marriage as one of their central precepts.
