Marriage Wins Big—but Is Still In Danger
Posted November 6, 2009
Marriage scored a
TRIPLE VICTORY in this week's elections, with voters in three
states (New Jersey included) casting their votes on the side of
preserving God-ordained marriage.
In the most direct
battle of the three, voters in Maine sent a resounding message to
their state legislature by repealing the new law allowing same-sex
"marriage." By a margin of 53-47 percent, Maine became the 31st
state to reject same sex "marriage" by a vote of the people!
Yes, you read that
correctly: this marks 31 out of 31 states in which voters, given the
opportunity to cast their ballots on marriage, have rejected same-sex
marriage and upheld marriage as between one man
and one woman!
This is a huge win,
particularly as it comes in the Northeast, where Vermont, New
Hampshire, Connecticut, and Massachusetts have all legalized gay
marriage (not by popular vote but rather by legislation or court
ruling).
In Virginia, pro-family
candidate Bob McDonnell, who stands strongly for the preservation of
marriage, soundly defeated Creigh Deeds, who was endorsed by Equality
Virginia and Human Rights Campaign, both pro-gay advocacy
organizations.
Meanwhile, here in New
Jersey â€" in probably the most watched election of the evening â€"
voters handed a decisive defeat to Governor Jon Corzine, electing
former U.S. Attorney Chris Christie by a 49-44 margin to be New
Jersey's next governor. You'll remember Governor Corzine had
courted pro-same-sex "marriage" advocates, pledging that if a
"marriage equality" (i.e. same-sex "marriage") bill came to
his desk, he would sign it. Conversely, Chris Christie publicly
stated he would veto a "marriage equality" bill if it
came to his desk.
From Maine to Virginia
to New Jersey, these victories are significant. Yet, here in the
Garden State, our fight for marriage is far from over.
Governor-elect Christie
doesn't take office until January, and there is still time between
now and then for the legislature to pass a "marriage equality"
bill and send it off to Governor Corzine's desk for him to sign
before leaving office.
And this, my friends,
is exactly what pro-same-sex "marriage" activists and legislators
are intending to do.
This is not
speculation. We know for a fact that the legislature plans to
stealthily move same-sex "marriage" through the legislature
during the Lame Duck session â€" when few New Jerseyans are paying
attention.
This is simply not
acceptable.
As 31 other states
across the Union, the people of New Jersey demand that they be given
a voice and a vote on this critical issue.
Below is a list of
several key State Senators who are either leaning towards voting to
legalize same sex "marriage" or publicly undecided. It's up to
us to put these Senators on alert and let them know that we are
watching and that we demand the same right as voters in 31 other
states: the right to cast our ballots on this pivotal issue.

You voiced your values
in the voting booth on Tuesday. Now, I ask that you do it again by
contacting each of these Senators with one clear message: "Let the
People Decide."
Tuesday was a great day
for marriage in New Jersey, Virginia, and Maine. Let's not allow
our own state to negate this victory by permitting same-sex
"marriage" to sneak through the legislature when few are
watching.
Please contact these
Senators today, and help make Tuesday's victory last!
