Activist Judges Strike Again Essentially Redefining Marriage In New Jersey!

Trenton- Today the New Jersey Supreme Court ruled in favor of same-sex couples receiving all the benefits entitled to married heterosexual couple who marry in the case of Lewis v. Harris.  This comes after two lower New Jersey courts had ruled to uphold the traditional time tested understanding of marriage based on the interpretation of New Jersey law.  The NJ Family Policy Council believes this ruling is unjust, outrageous and is out of mainstream thought of the people of New Jersey as it forces the legislative process with strict mandates and time deadlines, and in addition, ignores two previous court rulings.

The outcome of this case supports the statement by Len Deo, President of the New Jersey Family Policy Council. “Advocates for same-sex ‘marriage’ do not like the democratic process of going through the legislature, that’s why they file lawsuits instead of introducing legislation.”

“The legislature should set social policy and approve laws for the entire state of New Jersey and the judiciary should interpret the law,” Len Deo stated.  “The previous rulings set the standard that New Jersey law clearly defines marriage.  It is between a man and a woman.  Both lower Court opinions affirm the foundational principles of marriage.  Simply eliminating an entire gender from the picture and still calling it ‘marriage’ is not a mere expansion of an institution, but rather the destruction of a core principle of society. The Court did an end around, and from the perspective of redefining marriage it is a masterful piece of work,” Deo added.

The fact that same sex marriage advocates continued to push for this marriage legalization after the legislature enacted a Domestic Partnership law for those who cannot get married, shows the unprecedented desire of these activists to eradicate the very foundation of marriage.

The New Jersey Coalition to Preserve and Protect Marriage will have no other choice but to move to mobilize New Jersey citizens to petition the Legislature to pass a State Constitutional Amendment protecting marriage. “The Supreme Court has left no other option to the people and now their voice will be heard as it has in other states where activist judges have attempted to radically redefine marriage. The New Jersey Family Policy Council continues to be here as a voice representing New Jersey families.

The New Jersey Family Policy Council is allied with the Marriage Law Project, The Institute for Marriage and Public Policy, and the Alliance Defense Fund.  Millions of Americans and New Jerseyans support these and other state-based allied organizations.
