Media Blacks Out Marriage Rally with Thousands of Citizens

TRENTON – Oct. 22 Yesterday, thousands of New Jersey citizens showed up on the Capitol steps in Trenton to show their support for marriage between one man and one woman. "Mainstream media" in New Jersey, Philadelphia and New York were notified of the marriage event, hosted by the New Jersey Family Policy Council, yet only one newspaper reporter from the Trentonian showed up and reported on the event. When the press were contacted by phone for confirmation that someone would attend the event to cover it, callers were met with hostility about the subject matter by many members of the press.

The results of the marriage amendment efforts in New Jersey will affect marriage in our society across the nation and anti-marriage groups realize this. The pressure groups seem to be infiltrating the mainstream media newsrooms quite heavily and blocking news about conservative issues and the pro-family, pro-marriage movement. It is an abuse of the press and the overriding question is: Are values voters being marginalized? The answer is obvious.

Len Deo, president of the New Jersey Family Policy Council, says it appears secular media is reluctant to cover traditional marriage rallies as pro-family forces continue efforts to get a marriage protection amendment before voters.  If there were five gay activists on the steps of Trenton ... everyone would have showed up [to hear] about some complaint that they were making," says Deo.

Nevertheless, efforts will continue, says Deo. "We will continue to communicate with our legislators here in New Jersey about the issue and also to let them know, as we continue in the process of doing a petition drive, the great support for preserving marriage," he explains.
