The Numbers Speak For Themselves! NJ Must Pass Marriage Protection Amendment

(TRENTON) The Civil Union Review Commission (CURC) – stacked with pro-same-sex “marriage” advocates – has issued a new report replete with unsubstantiated claims designed to push the NJ Legislature to redefine marriage.  It is obvious that these activists, with the help of Governor Corzine and assembly Speaker Joseph Roberts, are determined to shove same-sex “marriage” down the throats of the vast majority of New Jersey residents, (61%), who believe that same-sex couples have a right to live as they choose, yet do not have the right to change the definition of marriage for the rest of society. Instead of supporting the redefinition of marriage for all New Jerseyans and praising this biased report, they should be working to pass a ballot amendment to “Let the People Decide” in NJ on preserving marriage between one man and one woman.

The Civil Union Commission (CURC) report changes nothing with regard to the real issue – preserving the title and definition of marriage. When lawmakers passed a civil union law they rightly recognized the historic and societal need for marriage to remain as the union of one man and one woman only, and recognized that to redefine it would open the door to further redefinition.  Their goal was to give the same benefits to same-sex couples and their families and that is what the new civil union law has done on the state level.

“The civil union law is working, said Len Deo, President of the NJFPC. Remarkably, there have only been 8 formal complaints filed with the Civil Rights Commission and the numbers regarding civil unions working speak for themselves.” “For the minuscule percent of 0.00018% (eighteen thousandths of one percent) we’re going to change the definition of marriage? That’s absurd!

The numbers speak for themselves:

8,600,000 – The total number of residents living in New Jersey
1,600,000 – The total number of married couples living in New Jersey
3,200,000  – The number of married individuals in NJ
37.2 %  – The percentage of married persons in NJ to the total population
245,100  – The estimated number of homosexual persons living in NJ
2.8 %   – The percentage of homosexual persons in NJ to the total population
3,662  – The number of homosexual couples who formed Civil Unions in New Jersey; only 1.5% of homosexuals
0.04%  – The percentage of homosexual couples who are Civil Unionized in NJ to the total population.
8  – The number of homosexual couples who have formed Civil Unions in New Jersey who have filed complaints with the NJ Civil Rights Commission claiming that Civil Unions are not working
0.00018%  – The percentage of civil unioned individuals filing formal complaints to the total population

Most importantly, If the numbers were to be equal then based on the general population marriage rate the number of same-sex couples partaking of civil unions should be 37% of 245,100 of homosexual individuals which would equal 91,177 individuals or 45,588 civil unionized couples. The argument that the same needs exist in the homosexual community for civil unions or marriage are rebutted by the number of civil unionized couples which currently stands at 3,662 after the civil union law has been in effect for two years. Marriage provides very important benefits to our society and the children raised in those relationships. It has been said that a healthy marriage, one man and one woman, is the best department of health, education and welfare. When something is not broken, we should not tinker with its very definition. In other jurisdictions where same-sex “marriage” has become law the schools have been used to indoctrinate young children, some as young as kindergarten and first grade, that homosexual relationships are the same as a married man and woman. That’s just wrong!

“There remains no real evidence to justify redefining marriage from its traditional understanding as being between one man and one woman,” said Len Deo. “Let the People Decide and pass a marriage amendment once and for all.”
