Recreational Marijuana Coalition

The Green Wave, attempts at marijuana legalization across America, has come to a surprising halt in New Jersey. Recently state legislatures, including New Jersey, were unable to pass a bill legalizing the recreational use of this mind-altering substance. Big Tobacco and Big Alcohol are frustrated that their skewed studies and million-dollar messaging campaigns have not worked in our state. That’s because the general public is becoming more and more aware of the risks, dangers, and consequences recreational marijuana has had on communities in states that have legalized.

Unfortunately, the New Jersey legislature is seeking to bypass their responsibilities by putting the question of legalizing recreational marijuana to voters on a future ballot measure.

This is why we have organized a coalition of local public officials, clergy, addiction help centers, and prevention networks this week to review data and discuss the negative impact legalized recreational marijuana would have on our state.

The data and statistics can be summarized in one word – devastating!

Data shows legalized recreational marijuana:

  • Jeopardizes the health of youth
  • Increases the risk to public safety
  • Unfairly impact communities of color and low-income neighborhoods

In the coming months our coalition will explain how recreational marijuana devastates communities.

Don’t devastate the Garden State!

It is an injustice for big investment firms to come into our state and try to push recreational marijuana to benefit at the expense of our youth, underserved urban communities, and public safety. Big Business has an insatiable drive to place profits over people and this should be rejected by New Jersey. Big government is no less guilty if they flood our neighborhoods with drugs to pay for years of irresponsible mismanagement of state funds.

This is why our newly formed coalition is fighting for the youth in our state. We’re fighting for our communities of color, low-income neighborhoods, and the overall public health and safety of New Jersey citizens. We stand for policies and ballot measures that will strengthen families, uplift society, and provide safer workplaces. Recreational marijuana can’t fix those problems and in fact, makes them far worse.

Thank you for partnering with us as we continue to promote policies that will allow our Garden state to thrive!
